BIOGRAPHY

My abstract paintings emerge out a response to the rhythmic music I listen to and love.  The initial brushstrokes and linework follow the music’s pulse and movement spontaneously.  Curved and straight, they come from all directions of the canvas.  As the layering continues, I discover shapes and patterns within the intersection of lines.  These shapes are then defined and given structure with additional layers of color.  The work itself delineates the next step of the process, each brush stroke and indispensable bridge between the previous marking and the next.  The final painting is a culmination of these layers, while often still revealing the graduated process that leads to the completed image.

My work is influenced by music, architecture, the art of indigenous cultures, graffiti, traditional abstract painters, and the process of painting itself.
